Kosovo Says Farewell to Football Legend

Representatives of FIFA, Kosovo sports federations, senior Kosovo and regional state officials and many citizens paid homage at the parliament building to the football legend, Fadil Vokrri who died on Saturday in the capital Pristina after a heart attack.

Vokrri played for local Kosovo teams FC Llapi and FC Prishtina, before joining Belgrade’s FC Partizan in 1986 where he went on to win one league championship. He also played for Yugoslavia’s national team during 1984-1987 and was elected the country’s best player in 1987.

During his mandate as the head of the federation, Kosovo joined the Union of European Football Association, UEFA and the global football governing body FIFA in 2016 – both immense achievements for the country’s international recognition in sports.
