After visiting migrant reception and detention facilities and a centre for unaccompanied refugees and migrant children in Croatia, and similar facilities in Bosnia, as part of a fact-finding mission on November 26-30 before submitting a report to the Council of Europe, ambassador Tomas Bocek praised the efforts being made in both countries.
“The conditions of the facilities that I visited in Croatia, as well as in Bosnia, have improved, compared to July when I was also on a visit,” the Special Representative of the Council of Europe’s Secretary-General on Migration and Refugees, told BIRN. Bocek’s key observations will be included in his official report to Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 2019, probably in February, he said.
“I will hand over the report, analysing the situation and present it to the COE so we can see what can be done, and where officials need more assistance,” Bocek said, clarifying that the Council of Europe will get in touch with Bosnian officials after that to establish what is best to do.
