Balkan Countries Select Their Oscar Hopefuls

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidate for the Academy Awards Foreign Language Film category is Aida Begic’s “Never Leave Me, the Bosnian Association of Filmmakers Committee decided on Thursday.

“Never leave me” is a story of pain, the meaning of life and friendship between orphans featuring three Syrian boys living a tough life as refugees in a mythical Turkish city. The film was shot on location in Turkey with children who are actual Syrian refugees.

The movie is the result of a co-production between Bosnia and Turkey. It premiered at last year’s Antalya Film Festival and was screened at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival.

It will be screened in theatres in Bosnia from Thursday having been shown at various festivals worldwide, including the Edinburgh Film Festival, a press release from Bosnian Association of Filmmaker’s notes.
