George Simion was on his way from the Romanian capital, Bucharest, to Moldova’s capital, Chisinau, last Friday, aiming to join a rally the next day in support of Moldova’s re-unification with Romania.
But he never made it past the Moldovan border control point, where the police gave him a document informing him that he had been banned from entering the country.
The leader of Actiunea 2012, a civic movement that supports Romanian-Moldovan reunification, is a highly problematic person in the eyes of the government in Chisinau.
