Serbia and Kosovo seem to be turning to Washington rather than Europe to win international support for a final peace deal that may include a much-rumoured swap of land.
Recent statements from Washington that the US is on side with whatever Serbia and Kosovo decide are music to the ears of Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo’s Hashim Thaci.
However, US experts on the Balkans say America’s stance on partition is not that clear or one-sided.
During the European Forum Alpbach, held in Austria over the weekend, Presidents Thaci and Vucic confirmed that they are pondering a historic deal that may include an exchange of territories in southern Serbia and north of Kosovo.
