Croatian police said they have caught an 18-year-old male who sprayed symbols of the World War II fascist Ustasa movement on an anti-fascist monument in the city of Rijeka.
Croatian police announced on Wednesday that an 18-year-old who sprayed symbols of the Croatian World War II fascist Ustasa movement on the anti-fascist monument in the coastal city of Rijeka will face charges for breaching public order.
Media had reported that someone wrote the Ustasa “U” – a symbol of the movement – and the acronym ZDS – representing the Ustasa slogan “Za dom spremni” (“Ready for the Home(land)”) – on the monument dedicated to victims of fascism during a high-school graduation celebration in Rijeka on Tuesday.
The police said that the teenager was released and will face charges of breaching public order before the magistrates’ court.
Media also reported that groups of high school students chanted “Za dom spremni”, “We are Ustasa” and “Kill, kill the Roma” in Rijeka city centre during the day.
