Eight Romanian soldiers were among the wounded in a terror attack that killed 11 children in southern Afghanistan, targeting a NATO convoy.
A suicide bomber targeting a Romanian NATO patrol in a village in Daman province, in southern Afghanistan, killed 11 children and wounded scores of others, including eight Romanian soldiers.
The children were at a religious school located by the roadside where the explosion occurred, Associated Press reported, quoting local officials. Nine civilians and two local policemen were also among the wounded.
The suicide bomber detonated the explosives when the Romanian troops exited their armoured vehicle.
All eight soldiers were taken to hospital at the Kandahar NATO base, and all are in a stable condition, the Romanian Defence Ministry said.
Romania has 700 troops in Afghanistan as part of the NATO Resolute Support mission. The country has lost 28 soldiers in bombings since 2002. In the last attack, on September 15, 2017, three troops were wounded and one died later in hospital.
