Rifat Sait, a former MP from Turkey’s ruling party, is very Turkish and very Balkan at the same time.
His family comes from all over the lands that once formed part of the sprawling Ottoman Empire.
“My father is from Drenica, in Kosovo, and my mother is from Skopje, in Macedonia,” he said.
“Ethnically I am Albanian but was born and raised in Turkey. Alongside Turkish passports, my daughters and I have Kosovo passports – and we hope that my wife who is also originally from Thessaloniki, Greece will take Kosovo passport soon,” Sait said.
